We’re excited to introduce Monese joint accounts to customers across the UK and the European Economic Area (joint accounts are currently not available to Monese customers in France, but will be coming very soon). If you need a shared account to spend or save together, we have now made it simpler for friends, couples, flatmates and other duos to open a joint account on their phones and pay for shared bills, expenses and other joint spendings.

How it works

Monese joint accounts make shared spending much easier. With advanced features such as shared spending notifications and transaction feeds, you and a friend, spouse, parent, or housemate, can stay on top of your expenses and set up monthly budgets to reach your savings goals together.

Joint account users will share an account number so they can both get their salaries paid directly into the account, set up direct debits and manage other payments and bills together. Joint accounts also share the same balance and allowances, which include:

  • up to €/£ 200 per month free global ATM withdrawals
  • up to €/£ 2,000 per month foreign currency card spending
  • free and instant transfers to other Monese accounts

The Monese joint account is made for pairs, meaning it can only be opened between two Monese customers.

How to open a Joint Account

Opening a joint account is fast and easy. The great news is that you don’t need to be in the same place to get started. However, both people will need to have their own Monese personal account first.

If you’re a Monese customer and want to open a joint account with another Monese customer, you can simply send an invitation to the person to open a joint account together. If the person you wish to open a joint account with isn’t with us yet, you can easily invite them to join Monese. Once they’re in, you can then invite them to open a joint account with you.

You can open a joint account in three quick and simple steps:

Step 1: Open the Monese app and add your new joint account by tapping the ‘Account’ button on the top left-hand side of the home screen (choose ‘Add account’).

Step 2: Select your desired currency (every Monese customer can open one joint account per currency).

Step 3: Pick the friend (or invite a new person) you wish to open a joint account with.

That’s it!

Once you’ve sent the invitation to your friend, they will receive a notification with your request. They will need to accept so the account can be opened, giving you both access to the shared account and all its features.

One accounttwo Monese cards

Once you have successfully opened your new Monese joint account on your phone, each person will receive their own shiny, rose gold contactless Mastercard to shop, spend and use separately (remember to link the cards to Apple Pay or Google Pay to make smart and secure transactions with your phone).

A joint account is completely free to open. Right now, you only pay for card delivery, which is €/£4.95 – and the allowances are the same as those of the Starter plan (more on our pricing here). Bear in mind that these allowances are per joint account and not per person or card.

Invite your friends and earn money

Don’t forget to spread the word about the new Monese joint account with friends and family. You can earn up to £20 whenever someone you’ve invited joins and starts using their Monese account!

We will be adding more features to our joint accounts in the coming months, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we would love to hear what you think about them, and what you would like to see next. Just reach out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or drop us an email at community@monese.com.
