Christmas Shopping Guide - 1920x1080 (1)

If you don’t want to be stuck celebrating Christmas in January, it’s best to start your holiday shopping early this year. And by early, we don’t mean Black Friday — even earlier! Amazon is anticipating a record-breaking year of sales this Christmas season and has even gone as far as saying that keeping up with demand will be “tight” across the entire online retail industry. Therefore, they’re advising shoppers to get a head start.

The good news is some online shops have already started rolling out early Black Friday deals, so you don’t necessarily have to wait to get spending! Here’s how to tackle your holiday shopping, so you get everything in time.

Set your budget

First, figure out how much you can reasonably spend on gifts this year, and for who. Remember that we’re still in the middle of a pandemic and an economic crisis. It’s been an unprecedented year, so if you’re struggling or can’t spend as much this season on your loved ones, that’s okay! Your friends and family should understand — we’re all in the same boat, after all. Therefore, cut back if you need to and don’t feel guilty about it. That said, with a little bit of planning and saving, there’s still a way for you to make someone’s Christmas extra special. We have a holiday gift guide that’s good for all budgets.

Shop online

Because of Covid-19, many people are opting (or forced) to shop online instead of in-store. Expect the same for the holiday shopping season this year. Shopping online certainly has its pros like shopping from the safety of your home. But one of the biggest cons is that it can also be trickier, even riskier if you don’t know how to keep yourself protected. Luckily for you, we have top tips for shopping safely online so you can avoid being scammed.

Take advantage of the sales

As mentioned, many sites are already offering excellent deals, so you’ll definitely want to make the most of them. Take your time browsing and bookmarking your favourite online shops to see if you can score better deals elsewhere for specific items. You’ll save and get more for your money, the people in your life will be happy and most importantly, your wallet will thank you later!

Don’t procrastinate

Don’t wait until the last minute to get all your shopping done. In a year like this, last-minute shopping is just not feasible. Keep in mind that deliveries may take longer than usual this year, so it’s better to shop early and be prepared to wait a while for your items. If you plan your time wisely, your gifts should arrive well ahead of Christmas morning, just in time for your special celebrations.

Buy small and locally

Consider shopping from local shops in your area as small businesses could really use the help right now. Small retailers may not even have the ad money to compete for your attention the same way giant online retailers can, so be sure to seek them out. Don’t ignore them as it might even be a way to get your products in earlier if you’re worried about things arriving on time. A local shop won’t have such a large queue of customers or huge orders to fill.

Send a money gift

Worse comes to worst, never underestimate the power and kindness of a generous gesture. If you run out of time or forget someone on your Christmas list, why not send them a little something via Monese? With your app, you can move money instantly to your friends and family’s Monese accounts, no matter the currency. You can even type them a nice note, which they’ll see under the payment’s reference. Have relatives abroad? With our money transfer service, you can send money internationally (outside of the UK and EEA) to your loved ones back home. Let them know you’re thinking of them during this most wonderful time of year.

Remember, the earlier you get all your Christmas shopping out of the way, the less stressed you’ll be. How are you tackling holiday shopping amidst the circumstances? Let us know your game plan on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email us at community@monese.com.

Happy shopping! 🎁
