Anyone can open a Monese account in a matter of minutes, and use it to spend like a local all over Europe - from today, this includes Romania!

If you've got a Romania-issued ID, you can now open a new RON currency account, with a fully local Romanian account number (IBAN) and a RON debit card!

### Why create a RON account?

### Spend like a local
Monese accounts in GBP and EUR have already been available for some time - but if you live in Romania, even though the allowances are generous, you may not be comfortable with effectively exchanging currency on each transaction. With your new RON account, you’ll be able to shop, spend and save like a true local, using the country’s currency, the Romanian Leu.

### Send and receive money locally
Speaking of local, you’ll now be able to make free local transfers to other banks in the country and even easily receive your salary into your account! Or if you need to make regular transfers to pay your bills, you can set up recurring payments in RON.

## Instant and free transfers between Monese accounts
[Send, receive and request payments](https://monese.com/blog/2019/03/request-payments) easily and instantly from your family and friends who also have a Monese account - it’s absolutely free! So if you live in Bucharest and you need to send some cash to a friend in London, a payment from your Monese RON account to their Monese GBP account will be instant and fee-free.

## A contactless debit card in the local currency
When you open your Monese RON account, you’ll be able to order one of our beautifully designed Monese cards, depending on the [plan](https://monese.com/pricing-ro) you choose. Our cards are prepaid debit Mastercards, which you can use to spend or withdraw money anywhere in the world. Here are some cool things you can do:

- Make safe online transactions when shopping online.
- Lock and unlock your card straight from the app &mdash; so if you ever lose your card, you can rest assured your money will stay safe.
- Make contactless payments.

### How to open your RON account

If you’re already on board with us, then adding a RON account is easy and takes just a couple of taps:

- On the home screen, tap the ‘Account’ button (on the top left-hand side).
- Then tap ‘Add account’.
- Select RON, follow the instructions, and you’ll have it in no-time.

Keep in mind that right now, RON accounts are available to anyone who has a Romanian ID document. They’re part of the latest app version, so you'll need to update your Monese app to see them.

While the weather might have been somewhat patchy this August, our spirits haven’t been dampened in light of another exciting roll call of new features – all added to Monese over the past month.

So here to provide a quick retrospective on all our recent releases, here’s your August monthly update, starting with...

## All-new Monese Pots

Monese Pots are a great way to put some money aside, whether you simply want to keep some spare cash in reserve, or you’re making an effort to save for something in particular. And now you can save for more than one thing at a time – by creating multiple pots, each with custom names and saving goals. 

We’ve also included a way to boost your savings, by giving you an option to save spare change to one of your Monese Pots whenever you make a card payment. These transactions can be rounded up to the nearest whole number, with the extra cash going into a designated pot. You can now access them straight from the home screen!

## The Monese Notification Centre

Say hello to the best way to stay informed about everything Monese. Our new Notification Centre will keep you in the loop with service information, feature updates, promotions and important account activity. Because we only want to be helpful when you need us to be, we’ve given you the option to turn alerts on and off – although we do suggest keeping them turned on for a better overall experience.

## Send money to Switzerland

High-end wristwatches, luxury chocolate, or a new fondue kit&hellip; There’s plenty of reasons to send money to Switzerland. And now you can do just that within the Monese app – where you’ll be able to make transfers to Switzerland in Swiss francs (CHF). Just head to the ‘Pay’ tab to start!

## European Portuguese language support

We want Monese to be the financial service that speaks your language. So, adding to our existing roster of 12 fully supported languages, you can now choose to select European Portuguese as your preferred language in the app and in any conversations with our Customer Support team. Tão bom!

## And finally...

We’ve powered through over 85 other improvements and bug fixes this month, including:

- Making it easier to move money between your accounts (head over to the ‘Pay’ tab, then choose ‘Move money’)
- Simplifying the account switching screen for quicker navigation
- Adding the option to see your spending overview on a weekly basis

Here to provide a quick retrospective on all our recent releases, here’s your August monthly update.

A quick rundown of all the new features we released this month, including all-new Monese Pots

Over the last year, we’ve been steadily working towards a better kind of money management experience. This includes features like [Smart Transactions](https://medium.com/monese/monese-smart-transactions-in-symbiosis-with-google-places-4218785e0a81), designed to improve awareness of your spending in order for you to better manage your money. We call this suite of notification and account summary features ‘Spending Overview’. Here’s how it works.

## Visibility is key

It sounds obvious, but the first step towards better tracking your money is knowing exactly how, where and when you’re spending it.

Traditionally, however, this has always been a challenge. High street banks have long since been behind the curve in providing ways for their customers to keep an eye on their money. This means many of us still invest too much time and effort in regularly tallying and recording simple day-to-day spending – and, whether you’re using spreadsheets, budgeting apps, or just a pen and paper, it’s a difficult practice to maintain.

Our app has already helped hundreds of thousands of customers by creating a new kind of money managment experience that promotes financial awareness by enabling the following:

- Immediate access to your balance on the go
- The ability to quickly search through your transactions list
- Easy identification of merchants and retailers 
- Instant notifications whenever there’s activity on your account<
- Alerts and balances presented on secure but easily accessible places such as lock screens and smart watches

While we like to think we’ve made a great start, we want to go even further in helping you keep a healthy focus of attention on your spending habits – while reducing much of the conscious effort traditionally associated with tracking it all.

## Introducing Spending Overview

You may have noticed a *Spending* icon on your Monese app’s home screen. This is your access point to a new comprehensive spending breakdown that provides insight on everything from your shopping or transport expenditure, to your household bills.

A donut graph helps you visualise your spending at a glance, while the categorised transaction list below shows exactly what you spent, when you spent it, and at what merchant.

You’ll be able to review your current outgoings as well as spending during previous months – and see that spending (as well as money-in) as split into 15 lifestyle categories: bills, eating out, education, entertainment, expenses, family and friends, general, groceries, health, holiday, income, pets, shopping, subscriptions, and transport. 

Your spendings are categorised automatically based on the merchant’s description. But if you do need to reassign a transaction – say if you needed to reallocate a train fare into ‘Holiday’ – you can do so in just a few taps.

## Coming attractions
We’re committed to refining the Spending Overview experience in the future – with more detailed information, more context and smart targeting of alerts that are specific to you personally.

In the coming months we’re also planning to introduce a brand new budgeting tool designed to work in tandem with the app’s existing features. It’s our aim for Monese to become a comprehensive, self-contained money management tool that provides a complete oversight both on what you spend and how you plan to spend in the future – putting you in complete control of your money. ## Introducing Career Hunt 2019
Now in its second year, Estonia’s [Career Hunt](https://careerhunt.eu/ "TALLINN 2019") initiative is designed to draw the world’s top tech talent to Tallinn, to match them with the country’s biggest tech companies. It was started by the Estonian Government via its Work in Estonia programme.
The top 25 candidates will get flown into Tallinn, with all of their expenses paid, to meet their potential employers and learn more about living in the Nordic tech hub.

The competition is nothing to scoff at – over 5,500 people applied last year, out of which 23 made the trip for the final, face-to-face round of interviews. Seven of them started new jobs in the country shortly after!

## How to get started with money transfers to Romania
We’ve supported this for a good while now, but we know how important it is for you to send money faster, so we’ve been working on improving the transfer times.

If you need to send Romanian Lei (RON) to Romania, from any of your Monese accounts, you can do it right from your Monese app. If you need to check the live rates, you can do so on our website ([Transfers to Romania](https://monese.com/gb/en/money-transfers/romania "Send money to Romania")), or in the ‘Payments’ section of the app.

Then just follow these simple steps:

- Select the person or company you want to pay, or add a new one
- Type in the amount you want to send
- If you’re sending money to someone new, you’ll need to authenticate the transfer by typing in a code you’ll receive by SMS

Now, if you want to make sure your RON transfer gets there as quickly as possible, make sure you send the money before 11:45am (UK time) – if you do, it could reach the receiving account on the same business day!

Mind you, there’s a lot that goes on in the background with these, so it could still take up to 4 business days for the money to show up in the other account. This could be due to a variety of reasons – like bank holidays in any of the countries or additional checks we sometimes have to do – but, most importantly, it depends on how quickly the receiving bank processes it.

In the first part of our series on international transfers, we’ll focus on how you can use Monese to send money to Romania.

Astăzi, oricine poate deschide un cont în Monese în câteva minute și să cheltuiești ca un localnic în mai mult de 20 de țări. Iar de astăzi, inclusiv în România!

Dacă locuiești în România sau dacă ești un cetățean român aflat în străinătate, poți deschide acum un nou cont în RON, cu un număr de cont românesc complet local (IBAN) și un card de debit RON!

Iată câteva motive pentru care ar trebui să deschizi un cont în RON…

## Cheltuiește ca un localnic 
Conturile monese în GBP și EUR sunt deja disponibile de ceva vreme. Cu toate acestea, dacă locuiești  în România, tot nu este ideal să optezi pentru schimbul valutar la fiecare tranzacție, chiar dacă cotele sunt generoase. Cu noul tău cont în RON, vei putea cumpăra, cheltui și economisi ca un adevărat localnic folosind moneda locală, leul românesc.

## Trimite și primește bani local
Vorbind de nivel local, vei putea, de asemenea, să trimiți și să soliciți bani, util  pentru a gestiona plățile interne. De asemenea, veii putea efectua transferuri periodice de sume fixe către furnizorii de servicii cu ajutorul funcționalității de plăți recurente. De asemenea, poți efectua transferuri locale către alte bănci din țară și chiar să primești salariul în cont. Acest lucru este posibil datorită  parteneriatului nostru bancar local cu [Libra Internet Bank](https://www.librabank.ro/ "Libra Internet Bank"). Parteneriatul cu Libra ne permite să răspundem nevoilor fundamentale ale clienților noștri, oferind în același timp un cont mobil rapid, simplu și intuitiv.

## Transferuri instante și gratuite între conturile Monese
[Trimite și solicită plăți](https://monese.com/eu/ro/blog/2019/03/request-payments-simply-quickly-and-politely "Trimite și solicită plăți") ușor și instantaneu de la familie și prieteni, care au deja un cont Monese - absolut gratuit! Aceasta include, de asemenea, transferuri internaționale instantanee între conturile RON, EUR și GBP Monese, fără costuri.

## Un card de debit contactless în moneda locală 
Odată deschis contul Monese RON, vei putea comanda unul dintre cardurile noastre Monese asociate cu [planul ales](https://monese.com/gb/ro/pricing-ro "planul ales"). Cardurile noastre sunt carduri de debit pre-plătite Mastercard, pe care le poți utiliza pentru a cheltui sau retrage bani oriunde în lume. Iată câteva lucruri pe care le poți face:

- Efectua tranzacții online sigure când faceți cumpărături online cu 3D Secure
- Blochează și deblochează cardul direct din aplicație - astfel încât, dacă îți  pierzi cardul, te poți asigura că banii tăi vor rămâne în siguranță
- Efectuează plăți contactless
- Configurează-ți cardul Monese cu [Apple Pay](https://monese.com/eu/ro/blog/2019/06/monese-apple-pay-more-countries "Apple Pay") pentru un mod mai sigur, privat și mai simplu de a plăti.

## Cum să-ți deschizi contul RON

Dacă deja folosești Monese, atunci adăugarea unui cont RON în contul tău existent Monese este super simplu. Tot ce trebuie să faci constă în câteva apăsări:

În ecranul de start, apasă pe butonul „Cont” în (partea stângă sus) 
Apoi apasă pe butonul, „Adaugă cont” 
Selectează RON, urmează instrucțiunile și apoi va fi gata în scurt timp 

Să ai în vedere că în acest moment, conturile RON sunt disponibile doar pentru cetățenii și rezidenții români.

With less than two months to go to the key Brexit date of 29 March 2019, we want to update you on our Brexit preparations and let you know that if you’re a Monese customer, we’ve got you covered!

## A globally-minded business from the start
Here at Monese, we are building a new kind of financial service - one that is unrestricted by national boundaries or financial borders. A financial service that makes it easier for you to live, study, work, travel or retire anywhere in the world; that is fast and keeps people connected; one that speaks your language wherever you happen to live.

In order to deliver on this ambition, we knew we would need to be set-up to serve many customers, in many countries, around the world. Regardless of Brexit.

## What does Brexit mean for Monese services?
As you might know, it is still unclear on what terms the United Kingdom will leave the EU. There is a chance that it will happen without a negotiated agreement on the key date of 29 March 2019 (i.e. commonly referred to as a ‘Hard Brexit’).

At Monese we are fully prepared for any Brexit scenario. This means we will able to continue to support all our customers across Europe without interruptions.

__With less than two months to go to this key date, we want to reassure you that services will continue as before and there will be no increase in the fees that you pay as a result of Brexit. You do not need to do anything.__

__Whatever happens with Brexit, you will continue to receive the same smart and connected service:__

- You can continue to use your Monese current account and debit card 
- Payments will continue to be sent and received 
- You can continue to send money abroad
- Fees will not increase and will remain transparent
