With Apple Pay on your phone, mobile payments are secure, quick and easy - and now paying for your journeys has gotten even faster and more convenient! Speed up your commute on London Underground trains and buses with Express Mode for Apple Pay. Simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch over the yellow card readers on TfL and go! No need to open an app, wake your device or use Face ID or Touch ID.

The new feature is available for personal GBP and EUR Monese cards and works across all TfL services, including the Underground, buses and trams.

How to set up Express Mode

To use Express Mode, first add your Monese card to your Apple Wallet. To set up Apple Pay, simply open the Monese app and navigate to the ‘Card’ screen. Here you’ll be able to tap the ‘Add to Apple Wallet’ button, follow the on-screen instructions and you’re done! Open your Apple Wallet and you’ll see your Monese card there, ready for use. You can also set up your card straight from the Apple Wallet app by tapping the ‘+’ icon and following the instructions.

Once you’ve set up Apple Pay, you’re ready to enable Express Mode. Follow these simple steps:

Step 1: On iPhone or Apple Watch, open your ‘Settings’.

Step 2: Tap ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’ and select ‘Express Travel Card’.

Step 3: Choose your Monese card and confirm it with Touch ID, Face ID or your passcode.

Make safe and fast payments

Using Apple Pay is simple and works with the devices you use every day. You can use it on iPhone (SE or higher), Apple Watch, iPad and Mac to make fast and convenient purchases in stores, apps and online. You can find a list of compatible Apple Pay devices here.

When you make a purchase, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and unique transaction code. Your full card number is never stored on your device or on Apple servers, and it can’t be shared with merchants. Apple Pay doesn’t keep transaction information that can be tied back to you, ensuring all purchases are private.

If you live in one of the 31 countries where Monese cards can be added to Apple Pay, you’ll be able to use it wherever you see the Apple Pay logo or the contactless symbol.
