Your December monthly update

Can you believe it’s the end of 2019 already? While for many December is a month for relaxing and taking a much-needed break, at Monese, we haven’t wound down just yet! Our teams have been hard at work, preparing the coolest new features to help you manage your money more easily.

Spend and save together with joint accounts

This month we introduced joint accounts to help you better manage any money you share with a partner, housemate or anyone else in your life. This is perfect for friends or couples who share expenses or are saving for something special together. With a joint account, you and a friend can set up monthly budgets, spending notifications — even direct debits! You’ll also share the same balance and allowances, which include:

• up to €/£ 200 per month in free global ATM withdrawals
• up to €/£ 2,000 per month in foreign currency card spending
• free and instant transfers to other Monese account

Joint accounts are available to customers in the UK and the European Economic Area except for France but will be coming here very soon.

Make your virtual card

For a new simple and secure way to pay right from your phone, we’ve launched virtual cards this December for all of Europe! A virtual card adds an extra level of security and protection when shopping online as your virtual card number will be different than the one on your physical debit card. With your virtual card, you can:

• make payments and shop online
• shop in-store via Apple Pay or Google Pay
• receive instant notifications when you make a transaction
• easily lock and unlock the virtual card at any time straight from the app

Hide your balance in privacy mode

If you’re out in public and need to check your Monese app, you can now do so safely with the new Privacy Mode. With this handy feature enabled, you’ll be able to open the app and shake your phone to hide your balance and other transaction amounts. You can also open the app directly in Privacy Mode to be extra vigilant.

Find Monese friends near you

Need to send, request or receive money from a friend? Now you can do so even faster! With the option to find friends nearby, you can easily locate other Monese users around you who are discoverable via Bluetooth. Once found, tap on your friend and either send or request your money. No need to enter any extra details — much more convenient!

And finally...

We've also made more than 81 other bug fixes and improvements, including a patch for those of you who send money to Poland in PLN. Other tweaks and enhancements include:

• a better view of what you're rounding up to your Pots
• grouping your contacts to manage payees more easily
• adding your Monese cards to Google Pay straight from the Android app
• sending money to Canada in Canadian Dollars (CAD)
• making it easier to find retailers where you can collect Avios points
