When you’re sending or waiting to receive money with us, you can usually expect it to arrive quickly. But sometimes, your transfer might take longer than normal to clear. This is something that comes up occasionally on our community channels, so we want to explain why your transfer may sometimes be delayed and what to do on the rare occasion this happens. 

First, please know that our priority is always to protect you, your money and identity, so we follow a strict set of guidelines set out by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the National Bank of Belgium (NBB). Sometimes this can affect processing times for transfers.

## How long will my transfer take?
Different types of transfers may take longer than others to clear. Here’s how long a transfer should normally take to process:

- __Transfers between Monese accounts__ — instant each way (including on weekends)
- __Local payments between your Monese GBP account and another UK account__ — we support UK Faster Payments, which should be instant each way (including on weekends); BACS payments will take 3 business days to receive, and CHAPS payments will arrive in your account on the same business day if they’re sent before 2pm 
- __SEPA payments between your Monese EUR account and another EUR account__ — next business day each way
- __Local RON payments between your Monese RON account and another RON account__ — up to 1 business day each way 
- __International payments (from outside the EEA) to and from your Monese account__ – will depend on the country you’re receiving from or sending to

Bear in mind that when you’re sending or receiving transfers, the timings will also depend on the other bank’s or financial institution’s processing times (and, in some cases, additional checks on our end or theirs). Many types of transfers don’t get processed on weekends and public holidays, so plan for extra time if you’re making transfers on one of these days.

## Why is my transfer pending?

When you have an outgoing transfer pending, you’ll see it in your transactions list in the app. This could mean that we may have to run a security check before processing the payment. We do this to make sure we’re keeping you and your money safe. Sometimes transfers can take time to settle as local receiving banks and financial institutions run their own checks too, which can also end up causing slight delays.

In the case of a security check from our end, we’ll reach out to you via email and may ask you for some details, such as the source of the money or reason for the transfer. Look out for our emails in your inbox — we’ll always contact you on the email address registered to your Monese account, and this is the email you should always use when communicating with us to speed things along. 

To help us get your transfer on its way, get back to us with the requested information and supporting documents as soon as possible as a reply to that email (don’t start a new email or use a different email to get back to us as this will cause delays).

## Why hasn’t my transfer arrived yet?
If you’re expecting a payment that’s taking longer than usual to appear in your account — which happens rarely — it could be because: 

### The payment wasn’t made correctly

When you’re sending money from an EEA country, always make sure it’s a SEPA payment, as you currently can’t send a SWIFT payment directly to your Monese account. SWIFT is an international payment network and a type of international transfer. 

If you’re [transferring money from a bank from outside the EEA](https://monese.com/blog/receive-payments-outside-europe "How to receive payments from outside Europe"), you’ll need to use different account details. You’ll need to add your Monese ID as a payment reference, otherwise we’ll have trouble finding your transfer. If you’ve accidentally sent a SWIFT payment directly to your personal account number, wait for the funds to bounce back (this usually happens automatically) and try again using SEPA or your international bank transfer details.

### The wrong account details were used

You can find your account details directly in the app, right under the balance. If you believe you’ve entered the wrong account details, get in touch with our Support team through your Monese app and we’ll try to help you locate your transfer.

### We don’t support the currency

We can only accept transfers in GBP, EUR and RON. So, if you accidentally send a payment in another currency to your Monese account, it’ll automatically bounce back to the sender’s account. Unfortunately, this could take a couple of weeks. We recommend contacting the sending bank and asking them to recall the transfer to help speed this up.

### We have to run a security check
From time to time, we might need to run regular checks to make sure we comply with all the regulations. This doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong — we just want to do everything to make sure we’re keeping you and your money safe. When this happens, we’ll send you an email with questions and may ask for additional documents. Please get back to us as soon as possible to get the transfer going.

## Transfers we don’t accept
Please note that we never accept some types of transfers, and these are any transactions related to adult entertainment or cryptocurrencies. Gambling transactions, for example, won’t go through if you’re in a country where it isn’t allowed. If you keep trying these sorts of transactions, you run the risk of having your [account blocked or closed](https://monese.com/blog/blocked-account "Why is my Monese account blocked?").

Why is my transfer pending?

At Monese, we don’t believe in hidden fees — on the contrary, we’re all about helping you save. That’s why we’re launching annual plans for our Monese Classic and Premium customers for even more savings! Annual plans include all the same great features and generous allowances you love, for less. Read on to learn more.

## Our plans explained

With Monese you can choose from three flexible plans depending on what you need. Here’s a quick rundown of each:

### Simple
Our Simple plan is perfect for those in need of a mobile money account and a debit card, no matter if you’re a frequent traveller, online shopper or are just getting started. It comes with zero monthly fees and gives you a generous allowance to withdraw cash and spend in foreign currency for free.

### Classic
We designed our Classic plan for those who intend on using Monese as their main account, regularly withdrawing money or spending more in foreign currencies. It costs £5.95 per month if your primary account is in GBP (and €5.95 if it's in EUR, or RON 24.95 if it's in RON). But if you choose to pay annually, this goes down as follows:

- GBP: around £4.16 per month (£49.95 per year)
- EUR: around €4.16 per month (€49.95 per year)
- RON: around RON 17.16 per month (RON 205.95 per year)

### Premium
Our Premium account is the ultimate Monese account if you plan on using a lot of cash, spend a lot in foreign currencies or regularly send money abroad, and want to avoid paying any extra fees. It costs £14.95 per month if your primary account is in GBP (€14.95 if it’s in EUR and RON 69,95 if it’s in RON). But if you choose to pay annually, this goes down to:

- GBP: around £10.41 per month (£124.95 per year)
- EUR: around €10.41 per month (€124.95 per year)
- RON: around RON 48.83 per month (RON 585.95 per year)

## Pay annually for Classic and Premium
Signing up for an annual plan with Monese is easy. You can save up to 30% with a yearly subscription than with a monthly plan. Here’s how to subscribe:

- Open the Monese app.
- Open the sidebar menu and go to ‘My Plans’.
- Choose your plan (Classic or Premium).
- Make sure you have enough in your account.
- Choose to pay annually.

And that’s it! You’ll have 14 days to change your mind and get a full refund by contacting our Support team. If you haven’t joined Monese yet but would love to give it a go, you’ll see the option to sign up for an annual subscription during registration.

### Save together with pots for joint accounts

[Money has been a taboo topic](https://monese.com/blog/2020/02/talking-finances-partner-taboo-topic "Talking finances with your partner") between couples and families for a long time; however, now might be a more important time than ever to learn to save together. That’s why we’ve enabled pots for joint accounts. You can now create up to 10 personalised pots, set up recurring payments to one of them and choose to round up each transaction to send the difference to a pot. You can even multiply the spare change by up to 10 so you can reach your savings goals together even faster.

## RON accounts for a more local experience
This is truly something special for our customers in Romania — a [fully localised account in Romanian lei](https://monese.com/blog/2020/02/ron-accounts "Say hello to RON accounts") with a local IBAN and a contactless Mastercard debit card to allow you to make free local payments and easily receive your salary.

## Joint accounts to save together
Whether you’re sharing expenses with your partner, splitting rent with a roommate or saving for something special with a friend, easily manage your money together with [joint accounts](https://monese.com/blog/2019/12/launching-joint-accounts "Spend and save together with joint accounts")! Get better visibility and control over your joint spending. Quickly invite another Monese customer to open a joint account with you, order your cards and start spending, sending and saving together.

## Virtual cards for extra security
Whether shopping online or paying with your phone, you don’t need to pull out your physical card thanks to [virtual cards](https://monese.com/blog/2019/12/create-virtual-card "Create a virtual card"), which offer an extra layer of security. To create yours, open your app, go to ‘Card’ and swipe left to see the virtual card option.

## EU IBANs
While no organisation operating in a SEPA country is allowed to [discriminate against your IBAN](https://monese.com/blog/2020/03/iban-discrimination "IBAN discrimination"), we knew having a more localised service was important to you. That’s why we started offering [European IBANs](https://monese.com/blog/2019/10/new-eu-iban-account-number "Introducing your new European account number") (starting with BE) last year to all our customers based outside the UK or France with EUR accounts. And there’s even more exciting news to come soon on this front, so stay tuned!

## Monese with Apple Pay
Since the world is becoming increasingly reliant on digital and contactless payments, this was one of the [most wanted features](https://monese.com/blog/2019/04/apple-pay-is-here "Apple Pay is here"). Now you have an easy, quick and secure way to pay with your iPhone by adding your Monese card to Apple Pay. Pay comfortably without the hassle of carrying your physical card around with you.

## Set money aside with pots
We first made it easy to spend and send money. Then we wanted to make saving simple too! We built [pots](https://monese.com/blog/2019/06/saving-money-monese-pots "Monese pots") so you can quickly set aside funds and automate your savings. You can have up to 10 pots per currency account, name and set goals for each, round up your transactions and automatically send the spare change to a pot.

## A Monese cards makeover
We redesigned our cards to reflect our pricing better, offering a unique and sleek card design for each of our plans. Our vision was something futuristic and elegant... and we couldn’t be happier with the result! The vertical design is available now in beautiful combinations of sheer whites and subtly textured blues. ## Link your PayPal and Monese accounts
We partnered with [PayPal](https://monese.com/blog/2019/07/monese-with-paypal "Monese with the power of PayPal") so you can quickly check your PayPal balance and review recent transactions straight from your Monese app. Seamlessly add your Monese card to your PayPal wallet too! The feature is currently available for customers based in France, Germany, Italy, the UK and Spain.

## Google Pay in more countries
Since [2018](https://monese.com/blog/2018/07/google-pay-the-easy-way-to-pay-with-monese-for-android "Google Pay and Monese"), Android users have been able to enjoy a faster and simpler way to pay at millions of places. They’ve been able to quickly add their Monese card to Google Pay and use their phone to pay wherever contactless payments are accepted. Over the last year, we worked on bringing the feature to even [more countries across Europe](https://monese.com/blog/2019/09/google-pay-europe "Google Pay Monese across Europe") (15 total)!

## Reminder
Since the start of April, you can now spend more without the hassle of inserting your card and typing your PIN. Mastercard contactless payment limits for many countries are now higher:

- £45 in the UK (up from £30)
- BGN 100 in Bulgaria (up from BGN 50)
- HRK 350 in Croatia (up from HRK 100)
- €50 in Spain, Portugal and Cyprus (up from €20)
- €50 in Estonia, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta and the Netherlands (up from €25)
- €50 in Ireland (up from €30)
- HUF 15,000 in Hungary (up from HUF 5,000)
- PLN 100 in Poland (up from PLN 50)
- SEK 400 in Sweden (up from SEK 200)

Just keep in mind that merchants need to update their card machines.

### Step-by-step

With Monese, sending money to India in Indian rupees can be done in a matter of just a few taps on your phone. If you want to check the live rates, tap ‘Send money globally’ in the Pay section of your app and type in the amount you wish to send.

Here’s how to get started:

__Step 1:__ Open the Monese app and choose Pay from the bottom menu.

__Step 2:__ Create a new payee (you’ll need the recipient’s full name, their address and bank account details, including bank name and IFSC code).

__Step 3:__ Choose the currency (in this case, Indian rupee) and type the amount of money you want to transfer.

That’s it! The recipient should see the money in their account within three business days but keep in mind this may also depend on the recipient bank’s processing times. 

### Making the most of Monese
We’ve worked hard to make sending money abroad as easy as possible. But we also want to simplify the process of managing your everyday money. That’s why we’ve built the following features for you to make the most of:

- If you plan on sending money to India regularly, you can set up [recurring payments](https://monese.com/blog/2018/11/make-regular-transfers-with-recurring-payments) and choose to transfer funds daily, weekly or monthly. You can also choose the dates you'd like to begin and end the transfers if you plan on paying for something within a set time frame (like rent or a subscription). 
- If you share payments with a loved one, you can open a [Monese joint account](https://monese.com/blog/2019/12/launching-joint-accounts) to make spending, saving and sending to India even easier.

If you have a [UK registered business](https://monese.com/blog/2020/02/register-your-uk-company), you can open a Monese business account to quickly and painlessly send and receive domestic and international payments for the services you provide. To help you keep track of your accounts and get paid on time, you can now create invoices right from your Monese app!

### What goes into an invoice
A proper business invoice will help you organise your billing and stay on top of your financial records. We think this should include details like: 

- __The name of your business and contact details__ to make it easy for your customers to get in touch with you.
- __The invoice number and date__ to stay organised and help you during tax season.
- __The payment terms and due date__, which should be clear and easy to understand, so you’re paid on time.
- __Product or service details__, including descriptions and quantities, to make it clear what the invoice is for.
- __Payment instruction__, including your account details so clients know how to pay you.

### How to create your invoice

To create and send an invoice with Monese, all you need to do is log in to your business account and choose ‘Invoices’ under the ‘More’ section of the app. We’ll then take you through each of the fields separately to make sure nothing is missing. 

### VAT registered

Depending on your type of business, you may or may not be registered for VAT (Value Added Tax). In both cases, our invoicing system will work just fine, and you’ll see an additional field just for that. After completing all the fields, you’ll be able to check everything once more, share it with the customer right away or save for later. All your invoices - both drafts and those already paid - will be available for you at any time directly in the Monese app.

Whether you're looking to send a one-off payment or you want to send money abroad to family in Poland regularly, it doesn't matter. You'll need a service that's entirely transparent and fee-friendly. There’s no need for you to spend more than you actually should. That’s why it’s important to pay close attention to the conversion rate offered by the service provider you choose, as well as the fee for the currency conversion.

### Send money to Poland

Sending money to Poland in Polish zloty (PLN) has never been easier. You can do it straight from your Monese app with just a few taps, no matter where you are. If you prefer to check the live rates first, you can do so right on your Monese app under the Pay section (tap: Send money globally).

To send the transfer, follow these four simple steps:

__Step 1:__ Tap the Pay section in the app.

__Step 2:__ Choose a person or company from your contacts list you want to send money to or create a new payee (you’ll need their full name along with their IBAN and BIC number, and residential address).

__Step 3:__ Enter the amount you want to transfer (you’ll see the conversion screen here).

__Step 4:__ Confirm your payment.

The transfer may be cheaper in comparison to traditional banks and also faster! Usually, the recipient should receive the money the following day; however, bear in mind that it can also depend on the receiving bank (along with possible security checks) and may take up to a few days.

### Make the most of Monese

Monese always works better with friends, so this feature has naturally been extremely popular with our customers ever since we launched it – and today we’re excited to announce the new and improved version of *Invite & Earn*.

## What’s new
Just as before, you’ll be rewarded for bringing in friends who join and start using Monese, once they’ve made the first transaction with their new Monese card – and they’ll continue to get a welcome bonus as well.

However, you’ll be able to get *more* rewards when those you invite continue to spend with Monese!

Here’s how it works:

__Step 1:__ Once the friend you invite has used their new card for the first time, you’ll both get a bonus once the transaction has settled (this usually takes up to 48 hours).

__Step 2:__ Once the friend you invite has spent a set amount, you’ll both get a *second* bonus. This will need to be spent in one of the following ways:

- Spending anywhere with their Monese card 
- Sending international transfers with Monese to any currency other than GBP or EUR

You can always find the latest amounts in your Monese app, under the ‘Earn’ section – remember, the rewards can be different from country to country, and they can change regularly.

### It’s easier to keep track

We’ve also made it easier to keep an eye on your invites!

Now, when you head over to the ‘Earn’ section of the app, you’ll be able to see a list of those you’ve invited but haven’t completed the steps to earn your reward. Then you can send them a nudge, to remind them to get things going.

## What if I’ve already invited someone?
These new rules apply from today to anyone who signs up to Monese with an invite code.

If you invited somebody to join Monese and they started the sign-up process (using your invite code) before today (18 November 2019), the old rules – and rewards – will apply.

Farewell summer, hello autumn! September has meant a return to the old routine for many of us. We’ve been at it as well – albeit in slightly warmer clothing – powering up the Monese app with even more features you’ve been requesting.

### Google Pay available in 12 countries

[Google Pay](https://monese.com/blog/2019/09/google-pay-europe "Monese Google Pay across Europe") is the fast, simple way to pay in millions of places – on sites, in apps, and in stores. We enabled this last year for UK customers, but you can now add your Monese cards to Google Pay if you live in one of these 12 countries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Spain and the UK.

### Save money with Raisin

We’ve already made it easy for you to put a little bit of money aside with Monese Pots. Now, having partnered up with savings marketplace provider [Raisin](https://www.raisin.com/ "Raisin homepage"), we’re helping take the hassle out of interest-bearing savings too. Available via the Monese Hub, you can access a great choice of competitive savings products. The feature is available to Monese personal account customers in the UK, Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands and Spain – and there's more to come!

### Link your German PayPal account

You may remember that we [recently partnered with PayPal](https://monese.com/blog/2019/07/monese-with-paypal "Monese with the power of Paypal"), so you can get all the freedom of Monese, with the added scale, speed and security of PayPal. If you live in Germany, you can now easily view your PayPal balance & transactions, as well as add your Monese card to your PayPal wallet instantly. 

### Estonian language support

Tere! We’re always working toward creating a mobile money app that speaks your language – and now that includes Estonian. You can now use your Monese app – or talk to our support team – in 14 languages. Väga tore!

### And finally...
We’ve released over 90 other improvements and bug fixes this month, including:

- Making it easier to get your salary into your Monese account – just open the app, go to ‘Add money’ and you’ll be able to immediately share your account details with your employer
- Displaying your account settings in a clearer way
- You can now add your Monese cards to Apple Pay if you live in the Netherlands ([or in 30 other countries](https://monese.com/blog/2019/06/monese-apple-pay-more-countries "Apple Pay for more Monese customers"))

The month of May sure has gone quickly and, although we may all be disappointed by the end of Game of Thrones, there’s still plenty of good stuff to look forward to in the Monese app.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at this month’s feature update, starting with...

## A better way to budget

The new budget screen allows you to set a monthly spend limit on your account

Rather than keeping it in a spreadsheet, or even a dedicated budgeting app, we think your monthly budget should be integrated right into your current account. Now you can use Monese to set a monthly spending limit, neatly visualised in the new Budget screen (which you'll find in the Spending section). 

Being attentive to your actual spending (relative to what you <em>want</em> to spend) is the best way to keep it under control. While you’ll always have the freedom to exceed you set spend limit, the Monese Budgets feature aims to help you moderate your spending when you need to.

## Instant top-ups are now free for all

Top up instantly at no cost, whatever pricing plan you’re on

Regardless of which payment plan you’re on, instant top-ups made using debit cards (whether they're from the EEA or not) are now absolutely free. This means that those on the Starter or Plus plan can now top up as many times as they like, and save money in the process.

## Avios referrals

You can now choose Avios as a reward when anyone uses your referral code to open an account and make their first card payment

Our much-loved Invite and Earn program lets you put a little more money in your account simply for referring other people to the app. Now you can opt to [turn that earning into Avios](https://monese.com/blog/2019/05/collect-avios-refer-friend "Monese blog: Collect Avios when you refer a friend") points instead of cash. Take advantage of this every time a newly arrived friend or family member uses your referral code to sign up and makes their first card transaction.

## Apple Pay support for Iceland and Norway

Apple Pay is the easy, fast and secure way to shop online and in-store. We’ve added support for more countries, meaning that you can add your personal Monese cards to your Apple Wallet in the UK, France, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain and Sweden - and, as of this month, Iceland and Norway too!

Earlier this year we joined forces with Avios to seamlessly link the popular reward currency with your Monese account – and today we’re excited to announce the latest result of our partnership.
You may already know that you can link your British Airways Executive Club account to effortlessly [track and manage your Avios balance](https://monese.com/blog/2019/02/introducing-avios), straight from your Monese app – but now we’ve taken it one step further...

### Collect Avios for referring your friends
When redeeming Avios, you can get rewards on flights, upgrades, hotel stays, travel experiences, or even cases of champagne. If you’d rather collect Avios instead of getting a cash bonus, you can now choose to do so when you invite someone to join Monese.

The number of Avios you collect from a referral will depend on the Monese plan you’re currently using:

- if you’re on Premium, you’ll get a whopping 1,500 Avios
- on Plus you’ll get 750
- and on Starter you’ll get 250

So if you’re on our Premium Plan and you introduce just five friends to Monese, you could collect enough Avios to book a flight to Barcelona! *(This would be one-way, peak, economy class, and subject to availability.)* The recipients meanwhile will each get to enjoy a cash bonus (and get their first cards for free).

### How it works
Make sure you have the latest version of the Monese app, and that you’ve already linked your account with British Airways Executive Club.

Then head over to the ‘Earn’ section of the app, where you can now choose whether to collect Avios or a cash bonus. Just keep in mind that the app will remember this selection, which will apply whenever someone completes the steps – but you can always switch it back.

Remember, each friend you invite has to complete all the steps before you can both get the bonus – right now this means they’ll need to open their Monese account and complete their first card transaction. You can always find the most up-to-date info [here](https://monese.com/refer-a-friend)!

We’ve officially become accredited as a Living Wage Employer, joining the 4,700 companies across the UK who believe a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.

The Living Wage is calculated based on the cost of what people need to get by, and adjusts for the higher cost of living in London. Currently the Living Wage is £9.00 an hour across the UK and £10.55 an hour in London – a substantial leap from the £7.38 National Minimum Wage. 

For thousands of people across the country, the Living Wage has improved their wellbeing by granting them increased independence and flexibility. Hard working employees find they have more time to spend with their families, emergency funds for a rainy day, and restored energy at work. Stories of the difference it has made can be found on the [Living Wage website](https://www.livingwage.org.uk/good-for-society "Good for society"). 

For us, signing up to the Living Wage Foundation is about holding ourselves accountable to the values we hold as a company for years to come, and encouraging others to do the same. It commits us to raising our rates every year as they are adjusted. It also empowers any employees, including contractors working on our premises, to speak up if they are being paid unfairly. 

Largely this has affected our cleaning staff. We are currently paying them the old Living Wage rate of £10.20 an hour, and are now pledged to raising the rates in the next six months (although we plan to do it sooner). 

We are delighted to be a part of this movement, as it is so important to the health and well-being of not only our employees, but employees across the UK. Moreover, it is the right thing to do. We believe that, if we are to maintain our standing as the world’s most inclusive financial service, it's essential that we foster inclusivity and fairness in all elements of our business.

You asked and we listened – we’re pleased to announce the arrival of our latest feature, __Recurring Payments__!

Recurring Payments are what our UK customers would call ‘Standing Orders’. It’s a handy way of setting up regular payments, of fixed amounts, to friends, family or service providers. They differ from Direct Debits (which are already available for our UK customers) – those allow you authorise an organisation to collect money directly from your account whenever a payment is due, and they can vary in frequency and amount.

Recurring payments are now available to all Monese customers with either UK or European accounts, regardless of pricing tier, and they’re completely free of charge!

## Setting it all up
If you want to set up a recurring payment, simply head over to the ‘Pay’ section as you normally would. Once you’ve selected your payee and the amount, you’ll see a new option to set up a recurring payment (or ‘standing order’, depending on where you are). If you flip the switch, you can select the date you want to make the first payment on, and the frequency you want it to go out at.

You’ll also naturally be able to manage or cancel these at any time, and you’ll get an email confirmation about any such changes.

## Keeping things in check
We think you should have as much oversight on your outgoings as possible, which is why we’ve integrated notifications too! So to help you make sure you keep your regular payments&hellip; well, regular, we’ll give you a heads-up in due course.

And if a payment does fail for whatever reason, we’ll also alert you to this and give you the chance to try again, straight from your transactions feed. 

## Regular as clockwork
We think that recurring payments will enable you to better control your finances, and we’re really excited to see how you will use it. It’s now available for all personal and business accounts, across the UK and Europe – just make sure you’ve downloaded the latest version of our app!
