Google Pay - The easy way to pay with Monese for Android

As part of Monese’s enduring quest to make everything about its banking solution easier, one of its latest additions for Android represents another long-awaited milestone. With the recent integration of Google Pay in to its services, Android users in the UK can now make contactless payments in the same way they would with their regular Monese card - without the card!

As of January 8, 2018, the old Android Pay and Google Wallet were unified into a single branded payment system called Google Pay. For those not yet familiar with Near Field Communication (or NFC), all you really need to know is that Google Pay harnesses this tech to enable its own digital wallet platform. This supports the digitisation of a physical debit or credit card into a virtual one.

Adding your Monese card to Google Pay couldn’t be simpler and can be done in seconds. It’s just a case of installing the Google Pay app on your phone and using it to input your actual card details. Happily, this can be done quite easily using your phone’s camera (or else entering the details yourself manually). Once that’s done, your device will be payment ready and will work on any contactless tap-to-pay terminal - and because Monese is by far the quickest way to open a current account in the UK, it is also, by extension, the quickest and easiest way to get access to Google Pay.

For those many Monese customers who have already started to enjoy the app’s enhanced payment information - as provided by its recently added Smart Transactions function. This all works as standard with transactions using Google Pay - providing enriched contextual information relating to merchants, points of sale and spending over the calendar month.

In order to use Google Pay, customers are required to own a NFC compatible device. That being said, with phone manufacturers now adding this wireless tech as standard, it’s worth noting that uptake of NFC is set to explode in the next five years with a projected four-fold increase. So, if your Android phone doesn’t support a Monese virtual card at the moment, there’s every chance your next one will.
